Prepare for the Dawn of High Refresh Rate Displays

              Author: Release Time:2020-02-14

On February 12th2020, Samsung officially announced the Galaxy S20 series, featuring three mobile phones that equipped with 120Hz refresh rate screens.

On February 13th, Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 10 series that has a 90Hz refresh rate screen.

Ni Fei, founder of Nubia also "announced" on Weibo that the oncoming Red Magic 5G will have a 144Hz display.

2020 is set to be the year where high refresh rate displays become the new trend for flagship devices.

For many years, refresh rate has been the holy grail for competitive PC gamers when they look for a high-performance monitor. Monitors with a refresh rate of 144Hz, 180Hz and even 240Hz are already available in the consumer market. According to the results of Nvidia's 2019 survey, players who use a high refresh rate monitor and a high-end graphic card always outperform those with a 60Hz monitor and entry-level graphic card. That means for competitive gaming, other than gamers’ personal skills, a display with a higher refresh rate will enable players to perform better in games.

With the prevalence of commercial 5G use, cloud-based video and gaming services are becoming more popular. A mobile phone with a high refresh rate display has become a need for users seeking better entertainment experience. A high refresh rate display can make the overall experience much smoother. An OLED display has a response speed of microseconds and can deliver vibrant images. These can elevate the viewing experience to another level, delivering clearer content to fulfil the need for high refresh rate displays. In a market place where product differentiation can bring a huge competitive advantage, it seems inevitable that new generation of flagship devices will be equipped with high refresh rate OLED displays.
